The Reinvention of Carnival
The Unexpected Revival of Carnival
In the 1960’s, we thought we could predict the death of Carnivals, often considered as a childish feast or a folkloric demonstration, this never happened. More than fifty years later, the Carnival is doing well. Everywhere, rural masquerades and urban parades are reborn and reinvent themselves, seeking to reconnect with very old rites or inspired by traditions that have come from afar.

The Reinvention of Carnival
The Exhibition ‘The World Upside Down’
The phenomenon has become so widespread that the Mucem first became interested in the form of a «survey-collection» intended to enrich the collections. Consideration the interest which arose from the research results, it was decided to organize under the title «Le Monde à l’Envers» an exhibition dedicated to contemporary carnival practices.
